This Prestige Series djembe is carved from a rare and exceptional black cassia wood sourced from Mali. Dried for over ten years, this remarkable shell benefits from outstanding stability : it resists warping during skin mounting and delivers a fully developed sound at its most accomplished potential. The grain and colour variations of this wood are breathtakingly beautiful — every instrument is truly unique.

A Mastered Drying Process for a Perfect Shell

Drying is a crucial — and delicate — step in the making of a djembe. As the wood loses its moisture, it works and can warp. To anticipate this, the shell was carved with an intentional extra thickness, then left to dry for ten years. Once the wood was perfectly stabilised and its final shape reached, the extra thickness was carefully removed to reveal a perfectly round shell, of flawless regularity and lasting stability.
It is this rigour in the manufacturing process that guarantees not only the beauty of the shell, but also the consistency and quality of the sound over time.

A Carefully Selected Skin

We selected a beautiful spotted goat skin from Mali, of medium to thick weight, which further enhances this instrument. It contributes to an exceptional tonal balance : the bass tones are warm, powerful and deep, while the slap tones ring out with striking clarity and definition. The sound is full, warm and generous in volume — equally suited to accompaniment and solo playing.
